HSV-1 (G) and oral transmission

  • Recently diagnosed. As much info as I have read and continue to try and find, my biggest lingering question right now on the brain is how transmissible is HSV-1 orally, if I have only had it in the genital area? Like, is shedding likely to happen orally if I have only had symptoms below the belt? There may not be a definitive answer to this question.

    Hello,

HSV-1 is found genitally 5-10% of all genital herpes cases. Many people get herpes outbreaks and then test positive for HSV-1 from a blood test... For detail, click here

I just paid for premium membership and am reading this full response for the first time since I submitted it. To clarify - I was diagnosed through a swab during an active genital outbreak.

My question is whether I should be concerned that I might pass it on orally via kissing, not oral sex. I have not had any oral symptoms, but if I carry it, would I be shedding orally? Hope this makes sense and thank you.

    Hello Scott,

I was diagnosed of the same HSV-1 Genital using a viral swab and later blood test confirmed that too.

Could you give me more information as I have the same questions.

Whats the risk of passing it orally and genitally? Also whenever i get an itch and dont see any sores, what would that be?
    Is it the viral shedding?
